ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (APP): Ahmed Raza Khan Qasuri, counsel of the Federation in constitutional petitions being heard by a nine-member bench, came under attack at the entrance to the Supreme Court here Monday, witnesses said. The attack occurred during the presence of dozens of policemen and journalists, television cameramen and photographers when advocate Khursheed Khan who was standing at the entrance sprayed something of black colour on the face of Qasuri, according to the witnesses.
Qasuri brought the incident to the notice of the bench and requested it to take serious notice of the attack. The bench headed by Jsutice Rana Bhagwandas directed Qasuri to submit a written application with details of the incident to the Supreme Court and assured him that it would take notice of this incident. “If such attacks continue then I will not let Aitzaz Ahsan enter the court room in future,” Qasuri told the bench. The judges advised him not to take law into his hands and proceed in accordance with the law against whosever was involved in the incident.
Later in an application the Secretariat Police Station, Qasuri asked for registration of an FIR against advocate Khursheed Khan for “attacking him and blackening his face with some poisonous spray” at the main entrance of the apex court. In his application, Qasuri said that the attack was pre-planned and alleged that a conspiracy was hatched by Aitzaz Ahsan, Munir A.Malik, Ali Ahmed Kurd and Justice (Retd) Tariq Mehmood etc. He requested the police to register an FIR and take serious notice of the incident, which he said was seen by the people of Pakistan live on TV networks.
Qasuri said Khursheed Khan, former Assistant Advocate General NWFP, and others could be recognized in television footage “while attacking me.” “They attacked me and Mr.Khursheed sprayed dangerous chemical on me particularly on my face, especially on eyes, in order to render me blind,” Ahmed Raza Kasuri said in another identical application submitted to the office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court. Following is the text of the application submitted with PS Secretariat for the registration of FIR:- 1.
“I am a counsel defending the Federation of Pakistan in constitutional Petitions No. 59, 60/2007 and others, challenging the candidature of President of Pakistan for the forthcoming election of the President. 2. Today at about 9-20 a.m., after parking my car in the Supreme Court car parking, I walked up to the main entrance of the Supreme Court building and while I was entering at that time Mr. Khursheed Khan, Advocate and former Assistant Advocate General NWFP and others who can be recognized, attacked on me. They attacked upon me and Mr.Khursheed khan sprayed dangers chemical on me particularly on my face especially on eyes in order to render me blind.
It was my luck since I was wearing goggles my eyes were saved. Mr.Khursheed Khan and others were shouting that they would teach me a lesson for speaking against Mr.Aitezz Ahsan in Court against Mr.Munir A. Malik on Geo TV last night. Form their attitude, act and conduct that they wanted to cause grave injuries and harm to me by rendering me blind. This attack was preplanned and the conspiracy was hatched by Mr.Aitezaz Ahsan, Mr.Munir A.Malik, Mr. Ahmed Kurd and Mr.Tariq Mahmood etc.. The motive of this attack is that I took serious objection before the larger bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the appointment of Mr.Aitezaz Ahsan as Amicus Curie on the ground that he is not neutral scholar and his stance before the public against the President is widely known publicly. On 23rd September, 2007 in a very widely publicized GEO TV Programme the “Great Debate on the Presidential Elections” I came out with a scathing criticism on Mr.Munir A.Malik and Mr. Tariq Mahmood and publicly condemned the so-called movement launched by the lawyers which intended to be destabilized the State of Pakistan at the behest of the foreign governments.
Today attack is a reaction of that bold stand taken by me in favour of Pakistan and accused these delinquent lawyers, who are bringing bad name to the noble profession of law, before the people of Pakistan, by taking law into their own hands. 3. Please take serious notice of this incident, which has been seen by the entire people of Pakistan life on TV networks. Kindly proceed against the said delinquent accused in accordance with law of the land. Dated 24.09.2007.
