Dallas, Texas: November 17, 2007

A rally was held by Pakistan People’s Party North Texas to  protest against General Musharraf’s martial law and his continued dictatorial rule. Many local individuals and families joined the rally spanning members of South Asian, Pakistani, and Native American origin.

Hundreds of people driving by the rally showed their solidarity by honking their cars and showing victory signs to the participants of the rally.

The rally was lead by PPP Chapter President, Nasreen Tareen, long time PPP patron Zahida Sarwar, PPP leaders Imtiaz Ahmed, Dr. Ghulam Nabi, and Zahid Khanzada chapter Secretary. Many families and youth of Dallas Fort Worth area responded to the call by joining the rally.
Speaking during the rally, PPP North Texas Chapter President Nasreen Tareen paid highest tribute to hundreds of innocent people whose lives were taken by cowards during Muhtarma Benazir Bhutto’s caravan of democracy in Karachi. She praised Muhtarma Benazir Bhutto, her party leadership and comrades and leaders and supporters of all other parties who are engaged in the battle for winning democracy, liberty, and justice for people of Pakistan.

She praised Pakistani media, especially GEO and ARY for siding with 160 million people of Pakistan instead of giving in to intimidations of a dictator. She praised members of legal profession in Pakistan for being the voice of truth and political morality in Pakistan.
Dr. Zahida Sarwar, Imtiaz Ahmed, Dr. Ghulam Nabi, and Mr. Khanzada strongly condemned Musharraf’s crackdown on opposition leaders, members of judiciary, and members of media.

The rally made following demands:

1.World opinion must side with 160 million Pakistanis and ask Musharraf to step down
2.Martial law should be lifted and real Supreme Court and Chief
Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry must be reinstated
3.Free media and remove all restrictions
4.All political leaders and prisoners should be released including those who have been illegally disappeared by agencies under manufactured pretexts. Later speaking to media, Nasreen Tareen demanded release of Safdar Sarki, a US Citizen who has been illegally held by Pakistan government for more than two years.
5.Rally also demanded that new Election Commission be appointed; current partisan interim government should be replaced by a government appointed with the consent of all parties.
6.Rally demanded suspension of all current provincial and local government officials who are picked and positioned to perform a mass rigging in coming elections.
